Achy, foggy, tired — and a panel that reads clean. There is a measurement that speaks to that mismatch, and most standard panels leave it blank.
Send My Free White PaperElevated C-reactive protein — above the 3.0 mg/L high-risk threshold — sat at 32.0% of U.S. adults by 2007–2010, down from 36.7% in 1999–2002. Roughly a third, throughout.
Common, measurable, and almost never on the annual panel. Ong KL et al., American Journal of Epidemiology, 2013. NHANES, n=27,214.
CRP concentration tracks continuously with future coronary heart disease, stroke, and vascular mortality — and the association holds after adjustment for conventional risk factors.
The heaviest evidence in the pillar: 54 prospective studies, 160,309 people, 1.31 million person-years. Kaptoge S et al. (Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration), Lancet, 2010.
In healthy middle-aged women, elevated CRP and IL-6 preceded the onset of type 2 diabetes by years — independent of BMI, family history, smoking, and exercise.
A population-level risk association, not an individual prediction. Pradhan AD et al., JAMA, 2001. Women’s Health Study, 188 cases / 362 controls.
Written for the adult between 40 and 65 whose panel reads clean and whose body does not agree with it.
The measurement your physical skips. Why CRP never became a routine line the way cholesterol did — and why a clean standard panel often means the question was never asked.
One signal, many symptoms. How pro-inflammatory cytokines link fatigue, joint ache, and mental fog — symptoms usually treated as three unrelated complaints.
What measurement-first reads. hs-CRP against age and sex reference, in the context of your symptoms and history, tracked over time — and what the evidence does and does not support.
Every claim in this paper ships with its limit. These are the four we state before you read a word of it.
A number is not a diagnosis.
The risk ratios in this paper are population-level stratification, not individual prediction. An hs-CRP value does not diagnose a disease and does not forecast what will happen to you. Kaptoge 2010; Pradhan 2001.
The hard-outcome trials were drug trials.
The trials that moved hard outcomes moved them with drugs — canakinumab in CANTOS, rosuvastatin in JUPITER. Those are mechanism evidence that lowering inflammation matters. They are not evidence about anything we offer, and nothing here substitutes for a statin or a physician.
There is no number to hit.
The AHA/CDC bands are risk-stratification tools, not a self-diagnosis line. The largest diet meta-analysis found a mean hs-CRP reduction of 1.0 mg/L across 2,650 people — a population average, never a promise to any one person. Nordmann 2011.
A reason to be evaluated, not a reason to stop asking.
Fatigue, joint ache, and fog as one inflammatory signal is a plausible mechanism, not a diagnosis. It is a reason to measure and to be evaluated — not a reason to stop asking. Educational, not medical advice. Louati & Berenbaum 2015.
The free white paper on the low-grade signal under fatigue, joint ache, and fog — what it is, what measures it, and what the evidence will and will not support. Ten verified primary sources, every claim cited.
